Our Process

Images In Tile utilizes an imaging process called "dye-sublimation" to produce durable, lasting, vibrant images within one or several tiles. They are not decals. The image is actually under the surface of the tile!

Phase 1:
Pre-Production - Image & Tile Selection
Phase 2:
Production - Printing and Heat Transfer
Phase 3:
Shipping and Installation
Phase 4:
Maintenance

Phase 1: Pre-Production
During the Pre-Production phase of mural development, the client selects both a unique image and tile surface that they would like to use for their creation.

Step 1:
Select imagery.
Step 2:
Select a tile body for your mural or tile deco.

Phase 2: Production
After an image and tile body are selected, Images in Tile moves your mural into the Production phase.

A. Your image(s) are printed onto carrier paper using large format printers and sublimation dyes.

B. Our specially coated tiles are then positioned on top of these printouts, and placed in a specialized heat press. The heat press applies high pressure at 400 degrees F.

During the heat transfer process, the molecules of the sublimation dyes turn from a solid to a gaseous state and penetrate the surface of the tiles. When the tile cools, the dyes return to their solid state and are permanently impregnated into the tile.

C. Your mural is now complete and ready for shipping and installation.

Phase 3: Shipping/Installation
After an image and tile body are selected, Images in Tile moves your mural into the Production phase.

Each tile is individually wrapped before packing.
Tiles are packed and boxed carefully.
On the back of each tile, the installer will find a number that represents the location of the tile within the mural.
Images in Tile makes installation easy by providing our clients with an Installation Grid Map that follows a simple, intuitive numbering system. On the back of each tile, the installer will find a number that represents the location of the tile within the mural. The installer refers to the Grid Map to find the tiles corresponding location within the mural. The tiles are positioned accordingly.

Because accidents do happen, Images In Tile will supply a limited number of replacement tiles at no additional cost. Shipping on replacement tiles is not included.

The number of replacement tiles is contingent on the size of the project and will be specified in your order confirmation. For this purpose, we keep a digital file of every mural produced for a period of 3 months from date of shipment.

When using grout and sealer for installation with your tile mural. Images In Tile recommends the following:

Grout:
Sand-free or silicone grout caulking should be used when installing Glossy, Satin Hard Coat, and Textured Wall Tile bodies. Other types of grout may scratch the imaged surfaces during fixing.

Sanded grout can be used on the following tile bodies if needed: Tumbled Stone, Satin and Glazed Porcelain, 2" Mosaic or VersaTile.

Sealers:
Tumbled Stone murals should be sealed if used in any water application. When installing VersaTile on a counter top, it is recommended to use a sealer on the grout.

Phase 4: Mural Maintenance
When cleaning your tiles, we recommend that you use any non-abrasive household cleaner. Gloss murals should be cleaned with glass cleaner or multi-purpose cleaner and a soft cloth.
